Hutchison Ports BEST strengthens its operational capacity with the acquisition of three new Next-Generation Ship-to-Shore Cranes

Barcelona, May 28, 2026 — Hutchison Ports BEST has formalized, in an event held jointly with the Vice- President of ZPMC (the world’s leading manufacturer of port equipment), the purchase of three new next-generation Ship-to-Shore cranes (STS).

This transaction strengthens the close collaboration between BEST and ZPMC, and also adds to the arrival scheduled for June of two additional cranes that are currently in transit.

This acquisition represents a new step in the terminal’s growth strategy and reaffirms BEST’s commitment to operational excellence and the continuous improvement of its services. All the new cranes will feature maximum-capacity specifications, with 55 meters under spreader and an outreach of 26 containers across, enabling more efficient operations for next-generation vessels.

The addition of these new cranes will have a direct impact on several strategic areas for the terminal and for all its users:

  • Increasing operational capacity to serve next-generation mega vessels and to absorb higher traffic volumes in line with new demands in international maritime transport.
  • Enhancing quay productivity, enabling more agile operations and an overall optimization of loading and unloading times.
  • Optimizing energy efficiency, thanks to the incorporation of more advanced and efficient equipment, aligned with the terminal’s sustainability goals and the reduction of its environmental impact.
  • Boosting the competitiveness of the Port of Barcelona, strengthening its position as a strategic hub in the Mediterranean and as a competitive advantage for each of the exporters and importers operating through BEST.

Guillermo Belcastro, CEO of Hutchison Ports BEST, stated: “We are very proud to share the addition of these three new STS cranes together with ZPMC, which has been a key supplier since BEST began operations. With these investments, and with the arrival of two additional cranes this June, we are strengthening our capacity to handle the largest vessels in the world while also increasing our level of service for all our customers. In this way, we once again reaffirm our leadership in efficiency, innovation, and sustainability in the Mediterranean.”
