KARACHI (August 13, 2026): Talks between petroleum dealers and the government held in Islamabad on Thursday ended in failure.
According to details, a delegation of petroleum dealers from across Pakistan, led by Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh, held talks with the Ministry of Petroleum in Islamabad. The dealers urged Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to honour his commitment that their demands would be approved within 15 days. However, the federal petroleum minister declined to fulfil the commitment.
The talks between the petroleum dealers and Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik remained tense. The delegation held discussions with the Ministry of Petroleum for nearly five hours.
The delegation included PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Vice Chairman Tariq Hassan, Vice Chairman Anwar Kamal, Sindh President Ameer Khan, PPDA Vice Chairman from Punjab Raja Wasim, Chaudhry Babar, Khawaja Kashif Elahi, and Abdul Majid Khan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, among others.
During the meeting, the federal petroleum minister expressed displeasure over the 72-hour ultimatum issued by the petroleum dealers.
The petroleum dealers said the government refused to change the existing system of daily revisions in petroleum product prices. However, the government assured them that it would consider an increase of Rs1.34 per litre in dealers’ margins, subject to approval by the federal cabinet.
Following the attitude of the federal petroleum minister, the petroleum dealers decided to immediately return to Karachi.
After the talks with the petroleum minister failed, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association also called an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee in Karachi, where important decisions will be taken.
PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that the dealers remained firm on their decision to go on strike on Saturday morning, adding that petroleum dealers would shut down their businesses.
