KARACHI (Commerce Reporter): The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has obtained a stay order from the Sindh High Court against the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) action to shut down petrol pumps.
According to details, the Petroleum Dealers Association has succeeded in securing a court order to stop KMC from taking action against petrol pumps. On Monday, Constitutional Bench No. 2 of the Sindh High Court, hearing a petition filed by the Petroleum Dealers Association, issued a stay order restraining KMC from forcibly taking action against petrol pumps.
The order was issued on petitions filed by Madina Filling Station, Makkah Mobile Service and Naseer Gasoline Service.
Chairman of the Petroleum Dealers Association Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that the court had accepted the dealers’ position, declaring that KMC did not have the authority to conduct raids or take coercive action against petrol pumps. He said the court had accepted their stance and restrained KMC from conducting raids and forcibly taking action against petrol pumps.
Following the court order, petrol pump operators have been directed to resume their operations. Dealers have also been instructed that if KMC officials visit their petrol pumps, they should be informed about the court’s order.
PPDA Vice Chairman Tariq Hasan said that the association had successfully established its position before the court regarding KMC’s powers. He termed the suspension of action against petrol pumps a major success for the Petroleum Dealers Association.
