Iran Reopens Key Airports, Allows International Flights Through Eastern Airspace

Iran has announced a partial reopening of its airspace, along with the resumption of operations at several airports, effective 0330 GMT on Saturday.

According to the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, international flights are now permitted to transit through the eastern corridor of Iran’s airspace. The development was reported by Mehr News Agency.

Authorities stated that flight operations across the country will be restored in phases, subject to technical readiness and coordination between military and civilian bodies. The gradual approach aims to safely resume passenger services nationwide.

Following the announcement, the Association of Iranian Airlines confirmed that six airports have reopened. These include Imam Khomeini International Airport and Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, along with international airports in Mashhad, Birjand, Gorgan, and Zahedan. The update was also reported by Tasnim News Agency.

Airlines are now preparing to restart both domestic and international flight operations.

The reopening follows weeks of heightened tensions after United States and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory strikes by Tehran on Israel and other regional locations hosting U.S. assets.

Hostilities were paused on April 8 after Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire. Subsequent talks between Washington and Tehran were held in Pakistan last weekend, with further negotiations reportedly being planned in Islamabad aimed at achieving a lasting resolution.
