PTCL Denies Etisalat Exit Rumors as Profit Jumps 58% in Q1 2026

Karachi: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has denied reports that Etisalat is exiting the company. This was stated by PTCL’s senior management during a briefing with economic analysts from brokerage houses at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The management added that a formal clarification will soon be issued to the media. The question was raised in the context of rumors following alleged diplomatic tensions between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

According to details of the analyst briefing shared by AKD Group, the company’s profit increased by 58% during January to March 2026. PTCL’s revenue for the three month period stood at PKR 98.8 billion, compared to PKR 61.9 billion in the same period last year.

PTCL officials stated that the merger process with Telenor Pakistan has not yet been completed. Despite this, the wireless segment has shown more than twofold improvement. Currently, Ufone and Telenor are operating as separate companies. The merger case is under review in court, and a decision is expected by June this year. The real benefits of the merger, including tower sharing, are expected to materialize in 2027. Officials added that the merger will strengthen the company’s service network in both urban and rural markets, as Telenor has a strong presence in rural areas while Ufone is well established in urban markets.

Management further stated that the company currently holds the largest spectrum among mobile operators in the country. Ufone currently has 180 MHz of spectrum, which will increase to a combined total of 292 MHz after the merger with Telenor. The company holds spectrum across multiple bands.

As for PTCL’s standalone business, its profit stood at PKR 3.1 billion, mainly driven by the Telenor merger and improvements in the banking sector.
