KARACHI (August 21, 2026): President of the United Business Group (UBG), Zubair Tufail, has said that the opening of Google’s office in Pakistan is a significant development for the country’s digital economy and a clear reflection of growing confidence among global investors and technology companies in Pakistan. He said the government’s initiatives to promote digitalization, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and modern technologies are giving a new direction to Pakistan’s economy, which is expected to have a positive impact on business activities, investment and employment opportunities in the future.
According to UBG Central Spokesperson Gulzar Feroz, UBG President Zubair Tufail said that the establishment of a permanent office by a global technology company like Google demonstrates that international organizations recognize the potential of Pakistan’s large young population, IT capabilities and expanding digital market. Pakistani youth are already establishing their capabilities in global markets through freelancing, software development, e-commerce and digital services. He added that Google’s announcement to provide Pakistani students with free access to Gemini for one year would help expose the younger generation to advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
Zubair Tufail said that the launch of 5G technology in Pakistan, the new spectrum policy, investment in telecommunications infrastructure and the growing presence of global technology companies should be advanced as part of an integrated digital economic strategy. He urged the government to work closely with telecom operators, global technology companies and the private sector to create an environment that encourages greater local and foreign investment in digital businesses, IT exports, startups and artificial intelligence projects.
The UBG President said Pakistan must now move beyond viewing the digital economy merely in terms of internet and mobile services and make it an important driver of exports, industrial productivity, employment and economic growth. If policy continuity is maintained, the business environment is improved and young people are equipped with modern digital skills, Pakistan can emerge as an important regional hub for technology and digital services. He said Google’s decision to establish an office in Pakistan marks the beginning of this new journey and is expected to further strengthen global confidence and the positive perception of Pakistan.
