Karachi: The government is expected to achieve its target for Development and Climate Levies on petroleum products by the end of the current fiscal year.
On one hand, the public is struggling with rising fuel prices and has reduced fuel consumption. On the other hand, government collections on petroleum products continue to increase.
According to a report by AKD Securities, the government collected PkR1.26 trillion in Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) during the ten-month period from July to April 2026, reflecting a significant of 37 pc year-on-year increase.
The report stated that two months are still remaining in the fiscal year, and collections under the Petroleum Development Levy are expected to improve further, enabling the government to achieve its target of PkR1.47 trillion by the end of the fiscal year.
During July-April 2026, sales by oil marketing companies also recorded notable growth, increasing by 4 PC.
In addition, the government-imposed Climate Support Levy (CSL) of PkR2.5 per liter is also generating higher collections. By the end of the fiscal year, the collection target under this levy is expected to reach PkR40 billion.
