Kabul:The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has announced the start of regular meat exports to Uzbekistan and Iran.
The announcement followed a meeting between Mawlavi Ataullah Omari, the Minister of Agriculture, and Abdulrahmanov Shukhratbek, the Governor of Andijan, along with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Kabul and a number of Uzbek traders.
According to a ministry statement, discussions during the meeting focused on expanding Afghan meat exports, the provision of agricultural equipment by Uzbekistan, the establishment of transit facilities, the import of chicks and fertilized poultry eggs, the supply of improved seed varieties, and the creation of quarantine facilities at the Hairatan port.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to achieving long-term objectives through mutual cooperation. Minister Omari emphasized the expansion of trade ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, stating that Afghanistan is ready to cooperate in the production, processing, and export of agricultural products to regional markets. He also called on Uzbek officials to provide greater transit facilities to support Afghan traders.
Governor Shukhratbek welcomed the start of meat exports from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, describing it as an important step toward strengthening bilateral trade. He also stressed the importance of providing agricultural equipment and enhancing joint cooperation to meet shared economic goals.
Minister Omari added that, thanks to ongoing efforts, meat exports to Uzbekistan and Iran have officially been launched on a regular basis. However, he noted that further expansion will require increased investment and the establishment of standardized livestock farms. He called on the private sectors of both countries to engage in closer cooperation to meet market demand and further develop bilateral trade.
The meeting took place shortly after Afghan and Uzbek traders signed an agreement last week in the city of Fergana to expand trade and economic ties between the two countries.
