Toyota Motor Corporation Showcases Heritage and Innovation at Automobile Council 2026

Classic sports icons including Toyota 2000 GT and AE 86 to highlight Japan’s automotive legacy

Toyota Classic initiative aims to preserve heritage while inspiring future mobility innovation

Tokyo: Toyota Motor Corporation has announced its participation in the prestigious Automobile Council 2026, where the global automaker will showcase a curated lineup of classic sports vehicles as part of its broader effort to preserve and promote Japan’s automotive heritage.

The event, scheduled from April 10 to April 12 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, is one of Japan’s largest gatherings of classic car enthusiasts. Toyota’s presence will focus on its “Toyota Classic” initiative, a program aimed at preserving historical vehicles while fostering appreciation for automotive culture among future generations.

At the Toyota booth, visitors will experience a journey through the brand’s sports car evolution, headlined by the iconic Toyota 2000 GT—widely regarded as the first Japanese car to gain global recognition. The display will also include a replica of the Toyota Publica Sports, symbolizing early innovation, and the Toyota Sports 800, restored through skill development programs that emphasize engineering heritage and craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, the GAZOO Racing section will feature performance legends such as the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 and the Toyota Supra JZA80, both equipped with heritage parts developed under Toyota’s restoration initiatives. The Lexus LFA will also be showcased, reinforcing the company’s commitment to maintaining high-performance legacy models.

Toyota said its participation aligns with the Automobile Business & Culture Association of Japan’s vision to position automobiles as a proud cultural asset. Through exhibitions, restoration programs, and community engagement, the company aims to bridge the gap between past innovation and future mobility solutions. The initiative underscores Toyota’s strategy to not only lead in next-generation mobility but also to safeguard the legacy that shaped the global automotive industry.
